Hazel Gregory, 99, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2013, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Rose Blank, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Pianist will be William Tinker. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell United Methodist Church or to Grinnell Regional Hospice. Hazel was born on July 17, 1913, in Alton, Kansas to Benjamin and Della Bumphrey Holtslander. The family moved to Osborne, Kansas and she graduated from Osborne High School with the Class of 1931. She received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Following her education she taught in Portis and Downs, Kansas. On June 1, 1937, she was married to Keith Gregory in Ogallala, Nebraska. The couple lived in in various communities in Nebraska and Kansas before moving to Grinnell in 1947. While living in Grinnell the family owned and operated the Gambles Hardware Store. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Just-A-Mere Club and the Federated Women's Club. Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Randy) Thompson of Grundy Center, Iowa; five granddaughters; and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three sisters, Myrtle Hartman, Flora Bays and Iladelle Brandenburg.
