Obituary

Harry A. See, 89, of Grinnell died March 24, 2017 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A graveside service and burial has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 29th at Westfield Cemetery, south of Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Smith Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. Harry was born April 12, 1927, in Grinnell, the son of Bunk and Elizabeth Sisnoris See. He was raised in the Grinnell area where he attended Frog Pond Country School and later the School of the Blind in Vinton. During this time, he helped his brothers as a farmhand. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On May 11, 1954, he was united in marriage with Jennie Leighty, in Kirksville, Missouri. The couple lived in Grinnell. Harry was employed at OK Tire Company and later for Miracle Manufacturing. After his retirement he worked part-time at Wal-Mart. He was a 40 year member of the Grinnell American Legion and a former member of the Grinnell Eagles Club. Harry enjoyed his family and held a special bond with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family dearly. He enjoyed tinkering on cars, mowing and socializing with his family and friends. He had traveled by car throughout much of the United States. Survivors include his daughter, Bonnie (Chuck) Cooper of Rock Creek Lake; three grandchildren, Ron (Connie) Cooper of Grinnell, Tracy (Rob) Rosburg of Grinnell and Jim (Teri) Cooper of Rock Creek Lake; six great-grandchildren, Tabitha (Samantha) Jensen of Pleasant Hill, Rachel Hall of Grinnell, Kaylee Cooper of Ames, and Rykiel Reeser, Grace Reeser and Emily Cooper, all of Rock Creek Lake; and two great-great-grandchildren, Rylee and Ryker Hall of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jennie in 2001; six brothers, Cifford, Joe, Raymond, Floyd, Dale and Junior; three sisters, Nettie, Juanita and LaRitta; and one great-grandson, Ryan Hall.
