Joseph Harry Scurr was born on August 16, 1933, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Joseph Clark Scurr and Frances Violet (Lippincott) Scurr. He was raised on the family farm near Gilman and he graduated from Grinnell High School in 1951. He attended Iowa State University before serving his country honorably as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

On July 20, 1958, Harry married the love of his life, Janet Joann Rankin, at the Gilman Community Church. Together, they built a life centered around faith, family, and farming. They were blessed with three children, Kathleen, Joseph, and Steven, and spent 61 wonderful years on the family farm east of Gilman.

Harry dedicated 38 years to farming in Marshall and Tama counties before retiring. After his farming career, he worked for DeLong's Sportswear and Grinnell Implement. Committed to his community, he served on several boards, including the Gilman United Church of Christ, Iowa Soil Conservation for 25 years, Gilman-Newburg Cooperative for 5 years, and Partner Communications for 22 years. He was also an active member of the Gilman Rustlers Club and a dedicated 4-H leader.

Harry found joy in life's simple pleasures—spending time on the farm, woodworking, and making cherished memories with his family. He and Janet enjoyed traveling together to London, Paris, and Rome. They enjoyed taking family vacations to South Carolina and Florida.

Above all, Harry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His kind heart, humble spirit, infectious smile, and warm laughter touched all who knew him. He was a man of integrity, generosity, and unwavering love for his family.

Harry is survived by his daughter, Kathy Ferguson of Gilman; sons, Joe (Sandy) Scurr of Gilman and Steve (Sheila) Scurr of Beaman, Iowa; grandchildren, Ashley (Ryan) McCarty, Grant (Kristina) Ferguson, Blake (Erinn) Scurr, Clayton (Madi) Scurr, Callen Scurr, Kendall (Michael) Kauffman, Parker Scurr, and Joey Scurr; great grandsons, Maddox, Paxton and Kinsley McCarty, Amos Ferguson, Savannah, Harrison and Briggs Scurr, and Tate Scurr; his brother-in-law, Denny (Carla) Rankin of Lineville; his sister-in-law, Debbie Smith of Grinnell; and his nieces and nephews.
