Obituary

Harry Bolton, 92, of Grinnell, died on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Deacon John Osborne officiating. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. A reception will follow in the Buckley Dining Room of the Mayflower Community in Grinnell. Memorials may be designated to St. Mary Catholic Church or to the Mayflower Community Human Needs Fund and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Harry George Bolton was born the son of Hamar and Alice (Walters) Bolton on September 15, 1929, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was raised and educated in Kalamazoo. He received a BA degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Harry was united in marriage to Joanne Flanagan on May 16, 1975, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was an electrical engineer for AO Smith in Wisconsin, Kozy Cab in Minnesota before they moved to Grinnell, Iowa, where he worked for Farm Hand and Square D. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a past member of the Elks Lodge in Grinnell. Harry's enjoyments were going fishing, playing tennis, doing carpentry work, and watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Harry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joanne Bolton of Grinnell; his children, Harry Bolton, Jr. of Minneapolis, MN, Terry (Ellen) Bolton of Chandler, AZ, Bruce Bolton of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Bolton of Columbus Junction, IA, Alice Bolton of North Liberty, IA, and John (Rebecca) Bolton of Solon, IA; step daughters, Susan (William) Robertson of Loveland, CO, and Catherine Naxera of Reeds Spring, MO; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jim, Bob, Bill and sisters, Shirley and Gene; daughter-in-law, Christine Bolton; and stepson, Timothy Naxera.
