Harold J. See, 83 of Lebanon, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019.
A celebration of his life with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will follow at Westfield Cemetery south of Grinnell. A reception will be held at the St. Francis Social Center.
Memorials may be designated to the Harold J. See Memorial Fund and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Harold was born on November 26, 1935 in Newburg, Iowa, to Joe B. See and Ida M. Wright. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War.
Harold was united in marriage to Flora Loetta Lawrence on August 25, 1956. They initially made their home in Grinnell, Iowa and later in Pekin, Illinois, Maquoketa, Iowa, Boulder Colorado, and Abilene, Texas after returning to Grinnell in August of 2005. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and had a natural love of history, coin collections, and genealogy research. He was also known for his entrepreneurial skills. His 40-year career spanned several fields and industries including: retail management, law enforcement and security detail, education, commercial self-service laundry, real estate, and refrigerant reclamation and manufacturing.
He is survived by his son Alan J. See, daughter Elizabeth See Chapman; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; wife of ten years, Shirley See, of Lebanon, Missouri; and a brother, Ben F. See of Abilene, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Flora in 2006.
