Obituary

Harold "Dick" Paul, 71, of Grinnell and formerly of Gilman, died on Friday, December 25, 2015, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A family celebration of his life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the Shana Quiros home, 826 Reed Street, Grinnell, Iowa. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Harold R. Paul Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Dick was born on June 15, 1944, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Harold and Marvel DeBates Paul. He was raised in Gilman and graduated with the Class of 1961 from Gilman High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Japan during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he moved to Marshalltown and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1980, he moved to Colorado and worked as a correctional officer for the Colorado Department of Corrections. He met and married Mary Rosann Kimbal and the couple made their home in Pueblo West, Colorado. Rosann passed away in 2012. In the fall of 2015, he moved to Grinnell to be near his family. Dick enjoyed traveling throughout Colorado and various areas of the United States playing tourist. His interests included collecting corvettes cars, flying and solving crossword puzzles. He will be remembered for his smile and jokes. Survivors include his children, Shana (Joseph) Quiros and Brian (Morgan) Paul, all of Grinnell; his mother, Marvel Paul of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Isabelle, Charlotte and A.J. Quiros; three sisters, Barbara (Carl) Littlejohn of Ohio, Betty Reynolds of LeGrand and Val (Randy) Courter of Grinnell; several nieces and nephews; and his girlfriend, Nancy Romine of Colorado City, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father.
