Obituary

Harland was born on June 18, 1914, on the family farm near Victor, Iowa to Herman and Emma Speck Muller. He was raised in the Victor area and graduated from Victor High School with the Class of 1932. He attended Upper Iowa College at Fayette and graduated in 1937. On August 18, 1938, he was married to Marion Dutton in Strawberry Point, Iowa. The couple lived in Elkader and he taught high school history and manual training. He also coached boys basketball, football and baseball. In 1946 the family moved to Victor and he joined his father in the operation of the Muller Livestock Company. He also was a partner in the M & N Grain Company in Victor. Following his retirement the family continued to live in Victor and winter in Florida. He has lived at Highland Ridge in Williamsburg for the past few years. Harland was a member of the Victor Baptist Church and was formerly a church trustee. He was also a member of the Iowa County School Board and a past member of the Grant Wood Area Education Board. He loved sports and coached the St. John's Catholic High School boys basketball team for several years and he also enjoyed fishing and playing golf. He is survived by his daughter, Harleen (Michael) Bott of Williamsburg; one daughter-in-law, Sheryl Muller of Beaumont, Texas; four grandchildren, Janelle (Todd) Roberts of Marengo; Justin Bott of DeForest, Wisconsin, Trent and Greg Muller, both of Beaumont, Texas; two great grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin Roberts; and one sister, Maxine Fetzer of Victor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; one son. Kirk Muller; and one sister, Dorothy Nickeson. Memorials may be directed to the Victor Baptist Church.
