Violet Van Waus, age 93 of Victor, died on Saturday, July 31, 2021, in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with Rev. Scott Lemaster officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Victor. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church. A rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Violet Van Waus Memorial Fund for masses and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home PO Box 485, Victor, IA 52347. Violet was born to Albert and Hattie (Schier) Haloupek on October 1, 1927, at their family farm in Chelsea, Iowa. Following her education, she worked as an operator for the Belle Plaine Phone Company and the Stok Hardware Store. Violet was to married John H. Van Waus on April 5, 1948, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. To this union were born four children: Kathy, Jim, Wally, and Joanie. The couple resided in Belle Plaine until 1962 when they moved to Victor and started Van's Clothing. They continued to operate the clothing store until their retirement in March of 1987. She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Guild, and the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. They traveled the United States, and their favorite destinations were Colorado and Alaska. Violet was the family historian, an avid reader, always up for a game of cards, and she enjoyed knitting many special pieces over the years. Violet always made her family her number one priority and loved them unconditionally. She always made sure there was a small pop and a bag of treats for you when you left after a visit. She held a special place in our hearts and will be missed by so many. Violet is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathy (Duane) Blomme of Ladora, IA; Jim (Juanita) Van Waus of West Des Moines, IA; Wally (Pat) Van Waus of Worthington, MN; and Joanie (Denny) Brown of St. Louis, MO; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; grandson, Matt Van Waus; and sisters, Bessie Gates, Libbie Stok, and Mary Fetter.
