Obituary

Greta M. Rutledge, age 78 of Grinnell and formerly of Creston, died on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Lakeshore Golf and Country Club in Afton, Iowa. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS) and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Greta Marlene Stone was born the daughter of Harold Swan Stone and Carrie Mae (Cornelison) Stone on January 5, 1939 in Osceola, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Afton, Iowa. Greta graduated from Afton High School in 1957 and was a very talented basketball player. Greta was united in marriage to Richard "Dan" Rutledge on November 10, 1963 in Afton. They were blessed with a son, Zebron Daniel Rutledge. They made their home in Creston and Greta was employed as a medical assistant at the Creston Medical Clinic for several years. She was a member of the Lakeshore Golf and Country Club and the Elks Lodge in Creston. Her family was always first and foremost. She held a special love for her dogs, especially her black Lab, "Moses." Her enjoyments were playing golf, going to the casino, and traveling. Greta is survived by her son, Zeb (Cara) Rutledge of Grinnell, step granddaughter Allison Marks of Grinnell, and niece Carrie Ann Schuler and her husband Terry Wetzsteon of Creston. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dan Rutledge in 2010; and siblings, LaDonna Schuler McLandsborough and Marvin Stone.
