Grace was born the daughter of Alta (Blair) and Forman H. Kelly on October 25, 1906 in Afton, Iowa. She graduated from Afton High School with the class of 1924, and continued her education at the University of Iowa. She began her teaching career in Afton in 1926. She was united in marriage to James K. Treichler on December 21, 1929 in Afton. Following James' death in 1935, Grace enrolled at Drake University and returned to teaching as a first grade teacher in Grinnell in 1937. On July 18, 1944, Grace married Orie Haag in Grinnell. She was the grade school principal from 1948 - 1961. She then returned to her love of teaching first grade students. She retired from teaching in June of 1971 after 40 years of educating children.
Grace was an affiliated member of the United Church of Christ - Congregational in Grinnell, a lifetime member of the Iowa State Teachers Association, a charter member of the PEO Sisterhood, an Order of Eastern Star member, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Grinnell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include nephews, Ronald (Loretta) Kelly of Afton, Iowa, Michael (Nancy) Kelly of Winterset, Iowa; nieces Janet (Robert) Kessler of Creston, Iowa, Pamela (Lyman) Hatcher and Roxy (Steve) Wilmeth of Merriam, Kansas; 8 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Charles, Phillip, Bryson, and Forman J.; sister, Paula Cronin; and niece, Patty Cronin.
