Obituary

Grace Adams, 83, of Grinnell and formerly of Malcom, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center in Grinnell. A funeral service for Grace Adams will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 9 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Rich Harbart officiating. Casket bearers will be Tim Elliott, Jeff Hinman, Damian Imhoff, Adam Ledvina, Mike Ledvina, Jake Robison, and Phillip Squiers. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. Visitation hours will be held from 12 noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 6:30 ' 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grace Adams Memorial Fund. Grace was born the daughter of Simon and Allie Smith Anderson on the family farm north of Kellogg, April 25, 1921. She was the sixth child of eight children in the Anderson family. Grace attended Kellogg schools and graduated with the Kellogg High School class of 1940. Grace was united in marriage to Virgil Adams on January 1, 1941 at the Methodist Church in Newton. To this union were born their children, Beverly and Ronnie. The couple lived on the Adams farm for ten years before buying a farm north of Malcom in 1951. Grace was a farm wife until the corn sheller and truck came into the picture. She then became the taxi driver and bookkeeper of the business. Grace and Virgil loved to go dancing. She enjoyed visiting her family and friends. The couple often traveled together, which included three trips to Hawaii. Virgil and Grace enjoyed dining and were a fixture at the Longhorn Restaurant in Grinnell. Grace was a strong willed person who overcame many obstacles in her life, including polio, a car accident, and breast cancer. Grace is survived by her husband Virgil of Grinnell; her daughter, Beverly Squiers and her husband Keith of Chelsea, Iowa; her son, Ron Adams and his wife Mary of Grinnell; her eight grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Koger of Everett, Washington; and her several nieces and nephews. Grace passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center in Grinnell. She was eighty-three years of age and was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James, Roy, Clifford, Joe, and Glen Anderson; and her sister, Laurine Wickersham.
