Gerry Phelps Burkart, 83, of Marion and formerly of Grinnell, died January 28, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. Nick Adam, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Gerry was born August 1, 1925, in Grinnell, where she was raised and received her education. She was an Eastern Airlines employee in Chicago and New York from 1945 until 1965. On January 13, 1964, she was united in marriage to George Burkart in Bayside, New York, and the couple moved to Marion in 1966. She was employed at Rockwell Collins from 1973 until retiring in 1986. There are no immediate survivors and she was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1989.
