Jerry was born on December 1, 1940, in Grinnell, Iowa to Gerald Albert Sr and Mary Gertrude (Parkhurst) Grosenbach. He grew up on several farms in the Grinnell area and moved to the family farm north of Grinnell during his last years of high school. Jerry graduated from Grinnell High School in 1959, Marshalltown Community College in 1965, and Drake University in 1969.
Jerry worked many different jobs throughout his life: delivering milk from the family farm, learning construction with his uncle Dolph, multiple car dealerships, Farmhand, Farm Service, DOT, Donaldson's, and Dimit Farms. He also took care of the Grosenbach farm and a small herd of cattle through the years, first with his father and then on his own.
On October 11, 1970, Jerry was united in marriage to Carolyn Osborn at First Baptist Church in Grinnell, IA. To this union the couple had two daughters, Trude and Sally.
Jerry loved spending time with his family and was proud to become a grandpa. He looked forward to attending any and all types of events from the arts to sports, for his daughters, granddaughters and other family, both blood and chosen. He enjoyed his classic cars, drag racing in his younger years, being a member of the Gilman Flying Club, and bowling leagues with his father. He spent over 20 years volunteering with teams for Odyssey of the Mind/Destination Imagination.
He will be remembered for his home improvement projects, love of farming and cats, willingness to help others, a big heart, and playful personality. He was always a phone call away for a chat, discussion on how to fix just about anything, or as a taste tester for any dessert you were willing to give him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his daughters, Trude (McClain) Smouse, and Sally Grosenbach, granddaughter, Kailani Smouse, all of Council Bluffs, IA, his chosen daughter, Darcy Dawson, of Grinnell, IA, and chosen granddaughter, Daria Kline.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Mary, and many other cherished extended family.
