June 15, 1931 – May 17, 2025
George Fowler, 93, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Accura HealthCare in Marshalltown.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. His family will receive friends at the visitation held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 am. Interment with military honors will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Memorials may be designated to Grinnell American Legion Post 53 and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with George's family online at www.smithfh.com.
Born on June 15, 1931, in Unionville, Missouri, George was the son of Roy and Daisy (Morrow) Fowler. He graduated from Unionville High School with the Class of 1949 and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On October 28, 1952, George married Martha Warwick in Montezuma, Iowa. The couple made their home in Grinnell, where George worked for the Maytag Company for 42 years until his retirement in 1992.
George was deeply involved in his community and held memberships with the Grinnell American Legion Post 53, VFW, Grinnell Elks, and the Grinnell Coin Club. He frequently visited local senior centers and played cards with the residents. In his leisure time, he enjoyed coin collecting, hunting, and fishing. For many years, he also enjoyed coaching and umpiring local softball leagues.
He is survived by his sons, Randall Fowler of Marshalltown, IA, and Steven (Vonda) Fowler of Edinburg, TX; grandchildren, Katy (Trevor) Harvey, Mary Fowler, and Stephanie Fowler; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Lucas Harvey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha; sisters, Alice Reynolds and Billie Fowler; brothers, Nick, Jim, and Pete Fowler; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Fowler.
