Obituary

George L. Christinson, 85, of Grinnell died September 15, 2017, at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 21st, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Dr. Joel G. Koepp, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grinnell, officiating. Organist will be Esther Huedepohl. Pallbearers are Dustin Christinson, Bud Pease, John Rupe, Dennis Fleener Tim Williams, Aaron Winburn and Chance Winburn. Honorary Bearers are Diane Winburn, Laura Williams, Cayli and Caden Christinson and Don Stoker. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday evening. A prayer service will held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the George L. Christinson Memorial Fund. George was born April 2, 1932, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Gustav and Vera Lucille Fleener Christinson. He was raised in Newton and later DeKalb, Illinois. Following the death of his father in 1948 he moved with his family to Grinnell. He was a 1951 graduate of Grinnell High School. After high school, he began his long career with the Maytag Company in Newton. He retired on June 1, 1992. George was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Club and the UAW #997. He volunteered his time and spent many hours for the betterment at Rock Creek Cemetery and the Victor Grange. On September 12, 1964, he was united in marriage with Patricia Lucille Adkins, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. George loved the outdoors! He loved the fresh air, for the care of animals, and his walks around Arbor Lake. He was a good steward of the land. Survivors include two children, Chris (Cheryl) Christinson of Grinnell and Gary Christinson of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Dustin Christinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Cayli and Caden Christinson, both of Grinnell; one great-grandchild, Rylee Howe of Grinnell; one brother, Paul (Marjorie) Christinson of Grinnell; and one sister, Dorothy Christinson of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in infancy, Lisa Christinson.
