George Axmear, 81, of Malcom, died at his home in Malcom on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 30th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. A luncheon will follow at the Malcom Auditorium.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm on Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and his family will received friends from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

George Edward Axmear was born the son of Maurice and Jean (Horras) Axmear on September 25, 1939, in What Cheer, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Keswick and graduated from Tri-County North High School with the class of 1958. George honorably served in the United States Army from 1959 – 1962. He returned home and began farming with his father.
George was united in marriage to Lucy Lu Schneekloth on June 7, 1964, at the Malcom United Methodist Church. They were blessed with three children: Jerry, John, and Karen. They moved to the family farm near Malcom in 1965 and George operated a grain and hog farm. He also owned and operated Axmear Custom Pumping for over 20 years and he was a Pioneer seed dealer for over 15 years. George and Lucy were members of the Malcom United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Malcom Masonic Lodge, the Malcom Legion, Eastern Star, Poweshiek County 4-H, the Poweshiek County Fair Board (president in 1980), Scottish Rite, Jesters, and was a longtime member of the Kaaba Shriners of Davenport.
George had a strict upbringing that taught him to be a hard-worker, focused, and stern. He volunteered much of his time to helping in the Shriners mission of caring for young children and bettering the lives of others. He enjoyed attending the Poweshiek County Fair, playing cards, attending dances, and traveling to Shriners parades.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lucy Axmear of Malcom; two sons, Jerry (Jane) Axmear of Malcom and John Axmear of Malcom; daughter, Karen (Perry) Fenner of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Jake (Tildy) Axmear, Josie (Brody) Beck, Addie (Nick Pippert) Fenner, and Tyler Fenner; three great grandchildren; and his siblings, David (Betsy) Axmear of Sigourney, Joe'd (Karen) Axmear of South English, IA, John (Connie) Axmear of Keswick, Evelyn (Denny) Garns of Van Meter, IA, and Charlotte Axmear of Norwalk, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Wayne Silver.
