Gayle was born the daughter of William Lawrence McGregor and Iowa Berkheimer on December 23, 1921, in Belle Plaine, Iowa. She was raised in Belle Plaine and graduated with the Belle Plaine High School class of 1939.
She was united in marriage to Alfred Goldammer on February 23, 1949, in Kirksville, Missouri. To this union was born their daughter Mary Ann. She taught country school near Belle Plaine before working at Ditzler's Dime Store for several years. She also was a cook for ten years at Marengo Memorial Hospital.
Gayle was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Victor, where she was a member of St. James Ladies Aid. Her enjoyments included tending to her flowers and gardening.
Gayle is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Goldammer of Belle Plaine; and her sisters, Betty Fox of Belle Plaine and Myrtle Geiger of Parhump, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred; her brothers, Edward, Lawrence and Delbert McGregor; and her sisters, Ruth Jordt and Mary Barragan.
