Garland was born September 3, 1954, in Grinnell to Maynard and Millie (Henle) Roth. He was raised in Brooklyn and graduated with the class of 1973. In high school he helped the cross-country team win a state title and played on the basketball and football team. After high school Garland enlisted in the Army, serving from 1973 until he was honorably discharged in 1976 and was very proud to be Veteran of the United States Army. He later became a truck driver and then owner-operator working with many farmers in the surrounding area for over forty years.
Garland married Diane (Lyman) on September 8, 2012, at Arbor Lake in Grinnell.
Garland will always be remembered for the love he showed to his family, especially his children, grandchildren, & numerous nieces and nephews. One of his favorite things to do was watch them play at their sporting events and teach them how to fish. He had a wonderful passion for sports, and enjoyed playing golf; as well as watching golf, football, & his fishing shows. He was a dedicated gardener and enjoyed working on his acreage. Garland especially enjoyed his trucks, tractors, Ford F-150 pick-ups and his old yellow Mustang; and let's not forget the boats, as he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to take his family out on his boat "River Man" to fish on the Iowa River, the dam at Red Rock, and at Johnny's Pond.
He is survived by his wife Diane; his daughter, Anna Renee Yoe; his son, Brad Roth; his stepdaughters, Chelsea Nicole (Josh) Sadler, and Ashley Raye Eakins; his grandchildren, Ireland, Fisher, Greenley, Jacob, Delaira, Blake, Scout and Evelyn; his siblings, Pamela (Bill) Reinburg, Dean (Becky) Roth, Cindy (Craig) Van Hove, Andy (Jo) Roth, Valerie Roth, Marci (Gary) Stegall, Marty (Lisa) Roth, Jerry (Brenda) Roth and Fran (Michelle) Roth; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Dwight and Marcel Roth.
