Obituary

G. William 'Bill' Fisher, 82, of Grinnell died Monday, January 3, 2005, at his home. A memorial service for Mr. Fisher will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 7, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with George Drake officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. The son of Roy and Katheryn Little Fisher, he was born April 12, 1922, in Roseville, Illinois. He received a B.S. degree in Business Administration at the University of Illinois in 1948. He was married to Barbara Joan Morris December 1, 1951, in Paris, Illinois and the couple lived in several communities in Illinois. They moved to Grinnell in 1963 with G.T.E. of the Midwest where he served as General Service Manager, Operator Service and Employee Assistance Coordinator. He retired in 1986 and during the late 1980's was a Patient Representative with Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Bill was a member and former vice president of the Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity at the University of Illinois. He achieved 32nd Degree Mason as a member of the Masonic Lodge, served on the Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club, and participated in Lions Club. He was active with the United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, lay speaker, and board member. He was a former chairman of the board of Grinnell Regional Hospice. He was Commodore of the Central Iowa Sailing Association, a member of the Red Rock Yacht Club, and was an amateur radio operator. He was also a member of the Association Research and Enlightenment, and Self Realization Fellowship. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Grinnell; two children, James William Fisher of San Francisco and Jennifer Fisher Jones of Decorah; and one sister, Margaret Pratt of Roseville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents.
