Fred was born on December 4, 1916, on the family farm near Victor, Iowa to George and Frieda Keiper Bayer. He was raised on the family farm and attended St. John Lutheran School. He graduated from Guernsey High School with the Class of 1937. After his education he worked on the family farm. On September 30, 1948, he was married to Dorothy Krug at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, Iowa. The couple farmed south of Victor and had a dairy operation. Fred was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and served as church treasurer for many years. He was also a member of St. John Men's Club. He enjoyed woodworking and riding his motorcycle. Survivors include his two sons, Rev. Robert (Amy) Bayer of Livonia, Michigan and Kenneth Bayer of Victor; one daughter, Julia (Terry) Warnick of Victor; four grandchildren, Timothy (Beth) Bayer, Paul Bayer, Rebecca Bayer and Reene (Diedrich) Maas; and one great granddaughter, Madeleine Maas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Lilia Martens; and one brother, Martin Bayer. The family will receive relatives and friends for lunch in the hall of the church following the graveside service. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church.
