Fred L. Weaver, Jr., 77, of Grinnell died October 28, 2011, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with John Whitehead III, a grandson, officiating. Pianist will be Jim Weaver. Vocalists will be Jessica Widmer,and the Three Belles, Sadie Hanson and Abbi and Alli Weaver. Pallbearers will be Darrel Batterson, Crystal Humphrey, Jason Kane, Casey and Cody Weaver, John Whitehead III and Robert Widmer. Honorary Bearers will Mike Thielman, Mike McClintock and Ko Lat. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery, southwest of Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 1200 noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to Center Friends Church in Newton. Fred was born November 11, 1933, in Gilman, the son of Fred L. 'Fritz' and Ida Madeline Barr Weaver. He was raised in Chester Township and was a 1952 graduate of Grinnell High School. In August of 1955, he was united in marriage to Delores Ann Mayo, in Grinnell. The couple farmed in Chester Township for several years and were later divorced. He married Ruth Krumm on January 7, 1973 in Grinnell and the couple lived on a farm south of Grinnell. He was also employed at Grinnell College for approximately 15 years and retired in 1995. Fred was a member of the Center Friends Church in Newton, Isaac Walton League, and a Christmas tree association. He enjoyed raising and selling Christmas trees, tending to his bee hives, gardening, and fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada. He believed in peace and goodwill, but also supported our troops overseas. Survivors include four children, Mary Whitehead of Kellogg, Jim Weaver of Hudson, Mark Weaver of New Sharon and Diane Widmer of Toledo; two step-children, Vivian McGuire of San Antonio, Texas and Edward McGuire of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Roger Weaver of Williamsburg; two sisters, Delores Harrison of Tucson, Arizona and Marilyn Merkel of Plano, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Casey, Cody, Alli and Abbi Weaver, Jason Kane, John Whitehead III, Crystal Humphrey, Robert Widmer, Mary Barlow, Jessica Widmer and Rowan Barnard-Kent; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth in 2009; and two brothers, Warren and Gary Weaver.
