Frank LaGrange, age 78 of Grinnell, died on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Unity Point – Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday in the Lakeview section of Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Frank Adell LaGrange, Jr. was born the son of Frank Adell LaGrange, Sr. and Beatrice Lenore (Playle) LaGrange on December 23, 1940 in Fairmont, Minnesota. He was raised in Fairmont, Sacramento, California, and Grinnell, respectively and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1959.
Frank honorably served in the United States Army Reserves following his education. He worked in the printing department at the Grinnell Herald Register and later at the Mason City Globe Gazette. He moved back to Grinnell and began working at Maytag in Newton. Upon receiving his journeyman certification, he went to work in the tool and die department at Klein Tools in the Amanas. After a back injury, he moved into the computer graphics department at Klein Tool.
Frank was a naturally gifted marksman, who won several trap shooting tournaments locally and nationally. He also held a passion for flying model airplanes. His other enjoyments included hunting, fishing, gunsmithing, and working on computers. He will be remembered for being strong-willed, stubborn, a good and faithful friend, and for always being there to lend a hand to others in need.
Frank is survived by his sister, Janet Hasselbrink of Grinnell; brother, Richard (Gloria) LaGrange of Parker City, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Donna Brown in 2015.
