Francine Tinkle, 91, of Newton, Iowa died on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Newton Health Care Center. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at West Liberty Cemetery near Montezuma. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. The family requests for those attending the visitation to please wear a mask. Glenna Francine Miller was born the daughter of Lafe and Hazel (Swangel) Miller on August 21, 1930 in New Sharon, Iowa. She was raised in New Sharon and graduated from New Sharon High School with the class of 1948. Fran was united in marriage to Ferril Butcher on July 11, 1948 at the Colfax United Methodist Church. Ferril died on November 16, 1968. Fran was united in marriage to Bill Tinkle on May 31, 1969, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The family moved to the Leona Tokle farm near Grinnell and later to the Ruth Hannay farm near Grinnell. Fran was employed at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, Brenton Bank, and was bookkeeper for the Malcom Elevator for several years, retiring in 1993. She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, traveling, and family gatherings. Fran is survived by her daughter, Marsha Gearhart of Newton; son, Terry (Carol) Butcher of Durham, North Carolina; stepson, Bill (Nancy) Tinkle of Grinnell; four grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; and 8 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ferril Butcher; husband, Bill Tinkle; son-in-law, Harry Gearhart; step daughter, Judy Brown; two sisters, Genevieve Clark and Macel Van Gorp; and her brother, Keith Miller.
