Frances Pauline McAtee Brummit, 84, of Grinnell, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 15, 2015 of complications of pneumonia at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the First Friends Church in Grinnell. A reception will follow from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the First Friends Church. Memorials may be directed to the Frances Brummit Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Frances was born to Russell McAtee and Mabel Berniece Long on November 27, 1930 in Trenton, Missouri. She is the oldest of the five children and four brothers were also born to her parents, Richard, Lionel, David and Calvin. She was married to Irvin William Blattner in May, 1949. They were blessed with four children, Bertha Louise Bryan, Doug Blattner, Glenn Blattner and Russell Blattner. They divorced and she later married Marion Moffit, who passed away. She married Chester Hess in 1979 and shared a farm life with him that included trips to Hawaii, state to state traveling and balancing the books for the Hess Farm. She greatly enjoyed her life as a farmer's wife. Chester passed away in 1985 and she married J.T. Brummit in 1989. Frances became a farmer's wife again as they nurtured a Christmas tree farm. She spent many days and seasons catering to the farm. She left Trenton, Missouri, in 2002 and moved to Iowa. She spent the remainder of her years living with her daughter Louise. She touched the lives of many children throughout the years of assisting Louise in her daycare. Survivors include her children, Louise Bryan of Grinnell, Douglas (Barb) Blattner of Millersburg, IA, and Glenn (Maria) Blattner of Georgia; 13 grandchildren, Danette (Tim) Moore, Donald (Pam) Bryan, Deana (Joe) Derby (children of Louise and Dearn Bryan), and to Kim (Tim) McFarland, Holly (Jeff) Heathman, Rhonda (Todd) Moyer, Tim (Lacie) Blattner (children of Russell and Evie), Jennifer (Denny) Waloch, (child of Doug and Diane), Stacy (Richard) Ellison and Jason (Chelsey) Blattner, (children of Doug and Barb), and Sheldon (Tara) Blattner, Nathan (Mandy) Blattner (children of Glenn and Marilyn), Julia Blattner and Caleb Blattner (children of Glenn and Marie); and 28 great grandchildren. She had a very special bond with her great-grandchildren, Temesha, Kapria, Owen, Eli, Eric, Tillie, and Molly. She is preceded in death by both her parents, Russell and Mabel; her brother Richard McAtee; one son Russell; and step-mother, Wilma Raines Blattner.
