He is survived by one son, Floyd Doty of rural Brooklyn; three grandsons; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Van Ersvelde of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two brothers, Melvin and Rolland Doty. He was born on June 12, 1912, in Brooklyn, Iowa to Forrest and Nola Tinker Doty. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools. In 1930, he graduated from Brooklyn High School. On March 18, 1937, he was married to Frances E. Richman at her parent's home in Brooklyn. The couple farmed in Bear Creek Township and Madison Township before moving to a farm near Malcom in 1949. They operated their farming operation near Malcom until they retired in 1974. Following their retirement they lived in Brooklyn until 1997 when they moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell. The couple loved to travel during their retirement years. Australia, Alaska and Europe made up a few of their travel destinations. On these trips, they would take numerous pictures and would return to share and educate many organizations and friends with their slide show presentations. The couple enjoyed spending their winter months in Texas and did so for 21 years. He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and a former member of the Brooklyn United Methodist Church and the Brooklyn Kiwanis Club. He was a former member of the Malcom Board of Education and a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau. He was named 'Master Swine Producer' by the Wallace Farm magazine and was awarded the top Soil Conservation Award in his Iowa district.
