Ferne M. Miller, 102, of Branson, Missouri, and formerly of Grinnell died March 19, 2007, at Forsyth Nursing and Rehabilitation in Forsyth, Missouri.
A graveside service and burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. Tim Stewart, pastor of the Grinnell First Baptist Church, officiating.
The daughter of Delpha May and step-daughter of William McDowell, she was born September 25, 1904, in Livonia, Missouri. She was raised in Grinnell and received her education in the Grinnell School District. On September 20, 1925, she was married to Lauriston L. Miller, in Newton, Iowa. The couple lived in Newton and moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1934, where she was employed at Fanny Farmer Candy Store and later RAYOVAC Battery Company. They moved to Tempe, Arizona in 1955, and to Pine, Arizona in 1969. They later moved to Vian, Oklahoma and then to Yuma, Arizona. In 1983, the couple moved to Grinnell and after the death of her husband in 1989, she returned to Yuma and then moved to Branson in 1996.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Reed of Tucson, Arizona; one sister, Lucille White of Nixa, Missouri; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father; her husband; and two brothers, Kenneth and Keith McDowell.
