Obituary

Faye Loftin, age 94 of Grinnell, died on Monday, June 18, 2018 at her home. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 23rd at Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Grinnell from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Catherine Burroughs officiating. Pallbearers are Phillip Gross, Sam Gross, Travis Swarthout, Jack Swarthout, Gary Downey and Larry Richman. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to Trinity Lutheran Church or to Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with Faye's family online at www.smithfh.com. Faye Carmen Gross was born on September 13, 1923 near Malcom, Iowa to Harlan and Evalyn (Puls) Gross. She was raised near Malcom, Iowa and graduated from Malcom High School in 1941. Faye was united in marriage to Grover Junior Loftin on February 23, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Poweshiek County northeast of Grinnell. The couple farmed in the Sheridan Township most of their lives and enjoyed raising and showing Hampshire hogs. They continued to be involved in the farming community well after they moved into town. Faye was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and loved attending ice cream socials. She loved the outdoors, especially the time spent fishing and camping with family. Faye will be remembered for the great love for her family, her incredible generosity, keen sense of humor, and never-ending faith. Faye is survived by her daughter, Julie Loftin of Grinnell; daughter-in-law, Dena Loftin of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Matt Loftin of Mercer Island, Washington, Anne (Tony) Henry and Jill (Jeremy) Muniz, both of Arvada, Colorado; and Deidra (Troy) Haigh of Elmhurst, Illinois and 4 great-grandchildren Charlotte Haigh, Grace Haigh, Annabelle Muniz, and AJ Henry. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husband Grover Loftin; son, Mike Loftin; grandson Michael Todd Loftin, and siblings, Claire Gross, Kenny Gross, Bill Gross, and Dorothy Downey.
