Evelyn Neitzel, 93, of Grinnell, IA passed away March 16, 2023 at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Burial will be at Guernsey Cemetery, at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 22, 2023. A luncheon will immediately follow the graveside service at Guernsey United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be designated to the Evelyn Neitzel Memorial Fund in c/o of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Evelyn was born June 7, 1929 in Guernsey, IA to Elmer and Wilma (Malin) Lane.

On January 26, 1945 Evelyn married Marlan Neitzel. To this union the couple had four children, Richard, Steve, Dean and Julie.

Evelyn worked for many years at Grinnell Regional Medical center. She started off as a nurse aid and spent many years in the medical records department. Before working at the hospital, she owned a Grocery Store in Deep River, IA with her husband Marlan, and worked as motel clerk.

Evelyn enjoyed watching westerns, as her favorite actor was John Wayne. She liked to sew, garden and spend time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Neitzel; her grandchildren, Wendy (Scott) Provin, Angie Lamb, Roy Neitzel, Jennifer Neitzel, April Stewart, Brett Stewart and Sarah Burch; her great-granchildren, Nicolle, Kaia, Kira, Brayden, Michael Gabriel, Jordyn, Skyler, Beau, Madison, Marshall, Gabrielle, Ava, Jesse, Morgan and Josh.

She is united with her husband, Marlan; her parents, Elmer and Wilma; her children, Richard Neitzel, Steve Neitzel, and Dean Neitzel; her grandchildren, Kevin Neitzel and Jeff Neitzel.
