Evelyn was born the daughter of Jay William Latcham and Vina May Woods Latcham on July 13, 1923, near Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Gibson and graduated with the Gibson High School Class of 1941. She then attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Thomas Messenger Moore on November 8, 1942, at her home near What Cheer, Iowa. To this union 5 children were born, Terry, Ann, Thomas, A. Russell, and John. The couple made Grinnell their home following their marriage, and Evelyn was employed at Grinnell Regional Medical Center for over 40 years as an OB technician.
Evelyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell for over 40 years, and a member of T.H.E.O.S., a national organization supporting widows and widowers. Her enjoyments included cooking, reading, gardening, flowers, watching the birds, especially Hummingbirds, going for car rides with her grandson Brian, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was very family oriented and often looked forward to family picnics and gatherings, where she could spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Terry (Thomas) Collum of Scotch Grove, Iowa, Ann (Sheldon) Wright of Brooklyn, Iowa, Thomas Jay (Jewell) Moore of Griswold, Iowa, A. Russell (Pamela) Moore of Oak Harbor, Washington, and John (Deb VanDeKrol) Moore of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren, Angela (Vic) Fritz, Brian Collum, Christopher (Jill) Collum, Darin (Angela) Collum, Kaitlan Moore, Thomas Moore, Lauren Moore, Michael Moore, Dustin Moore, Matthew Moore and Kayle Troester; and 6 great grandchildren, Brianna, Allison, Susan, Thomas, Mary and John Paul Fritz. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thomas M. Moore on November 4, 1976; and her brothers and sisters, Reynolds Latcham, Russell Latcham, Delmar Latcham, Margaret Edmundson, Jean Putnum and J.W. Latcham.
