Eva Williams Voelkel was born September 13, 1910, in rural Poweshiek County, near Brooklyn, Iowa, to Thomas and Anne Williams. She had the honor of being the first child of Thomas and Anne to be born in the United States. She worked as a live-in domestic for the Reichart family in Victor in order to attend high school and graduated from Victor High School with the class of 1930. She was united in married Albert F. Voelkel on February 18, 1931 in Grinnell, Iowa.
Eva lived on a farm nearly all her life and greatly enjoyed rural life. She was most happy working in the garden, at her sewing machine, or with needle and thread or crochet hook in her hand. She was a member of the Hartwick Congregational Church and later a member of the Victor Methodist Church. Listening to and singing hymns remained a favorite pass-time for her.
Eva is survived by two children: daughter, Beverly (Gerald) Worrall of Evans, Colorado; son, Robert (Karen) Voelkel of Eldridge, IA; six grandchildren: Michael Worrall of Centerville, UT; Brenda (Shinji) Nishimura of Ogaki, Japan; Kristin Pettit of Mexico, Missouri; Jana (John) Murray of Wheatland, IA; Scott (Donna) Voelkel of Seoul, Korea; Lynn Ramsey of Delmar, IA; 18 great grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd (Linda) Williams of Clarksville, Tennessee; two sisters, Sylvia VanErsvelde of Brooklyn, Iowa and Irma Boatman of Lindale, TX.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers George, Richard, Robert and two infant brothers, Noel and Alfred; sisters Oatley Martin and Elsie Martin.
