Eva Lee Fortner, 91, of Grinnell died on February 9, 2022, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
A private family burial at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be designated to Poweshiek Animal League (PALS).
Eva was born on March 21, 1930, in Wayne County, Kentucky, the daughter of Lewis and Dora Bridgemond Asberry. She was raised in Kentucky before moving to Grinnell in 1930, at the age of 8. She was educated in the Grinnell School District.
On August 5, 1950, she was united in marriage with George Fortner, in Newton, and the couple continued to live in Grinnell. Eva enjoyed taking care of her home and raising her children. She was a proud mother.
Eva was an avid fan of W.W.E. and doing a little gardening. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by two sons, Danny Lee Fortner and Harold (Maryann) Fortner, both of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Todd, Jeremy, Jennifer, and Corey Fortner; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George in 2001; two sons, Scott in infancy and Billy in 2021; her siblings, Lucille Hiner, Neva Van Gorp, Carson Asberry, William Asberry, Lillian Criswell, and three sisters in infancy.
