Esther Virginia (Ginny) Heiny Caughey of Chicago and formerly of Grinnell died Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Norwood's Crossing Care Center in Chicago. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Stroke Association, or to Stewart Library. She was born October 25, 1915, in Marathon, the daughter of Fred and Lulu Heiny. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa. On June 1, 1940, she was united in marriage with William (Bill) Caughey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple moved to Grinnell in 1949. She taught music and English in Gilman and then kindergarden at Davis School in Grinnell for 18 years and at Bailey Park School for two years before retiring. She was a 50-year member of both T.T.T. and P.E.O., women's societies, as well as a member of Sunset Club. As a couple, the Caugheys were active in many bridge clubs. She also enjoyed golf and cooking. She also volunteered time at Davis School and Grinnell Regional Medical Center. The Caugheys started a stroke support group after traveling once a month to a support group in Cedar Rapids, where she was a patient after suffering a stroke. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Suzanne Bunger of Bryon, Illinois and Jean Billingham of Chicago; one son, Curtis Caughey of Breckenridge, Colorado; and six grandchildren, who were the love of her life, Matthew Billingham, William, Rachel, and Anna Caughey, and Josh and Katie Bunger.
