Eric Robert Ahrens, 55, of Ankeny, IA, and formerly of Grinnell, IA, passed away on November 27, 2025, at Wesley Acres Care Center in Des Moines following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Born on October 8, 1970, in Washington, IA, Eric was a beacon of kindness and generosity, known for his unwaveringly good mood and loving nature.

Eric was raised in Grinnell by his parents Al and Candy Ahrens. His childhood was filled with fond memories spent with family on his grandparent's farm. He attended Grinnell High School, graduating with the Class of 1989. During his school years, he loved participation in theater, cast in numerous productions including Peter Pan, The Music Man, and Bye Bye Birdie, and he was honored to sing at the All-State Music Festival. He went on to study briefly at Iowa Central Community College before beginning a long career in the restaurant industry, most recently with Applebee's.

On October 31, 1998, Eric was united in marriage to Sheila Goodrich. Together they welcomed one daughter, Jessica. Though the marriage later ended in divorce, Eric remained devoted to his family.

A passionate music lover, Eric was particularly fond of heavy metal and hard rock. He taught himself to play the guitar and enjoyed attending concerts. Among his favorite travel destinations was Paisley Park in Minnesota, where he toured Prince's home and recording studio. Eric was also an avid "Jeopardy" viewer and was known among friends and family as a wealth of knowledge.

Eric is survived by his mother, Candy Ahrens; daughter, Jessica Ahrens; siblings, Mike (Emily) Ferguson, Donald Ferguson, Mark Ferguson, and Lisa Ahrens; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Al Ahrens, and his grandparents, Carl and Gerry Ahrens, and Lyle and Colleen Wiley.

A private family burial will take place at Hazelwood Cemetery. A remembrance gathering is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th, from 2:00 PM - 4:00PM at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, 2405 SE Creekview Dr, Ankeny, IA 50021. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Eric's memory to WesleyLife Hospice, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, or to PROJECT PURPLE.ORG., specializing in helping the fight against pancreatic cancer.
