Memorials: Grinnell Regional Hospice, St. Francis Manor Foundation, or to the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church. Emery was born to John and Elizabeth Fuller Kaisand on March 11, 1925 on a farm southeast of Gilman, Iowa. He attended schools in LeGrand and Newburg before graduating from Grinnell High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was on his way to Japan when the Atomic Bomb fell. A favorite memory was typing his own discharge papers as a TEC 3 on November 29, 1946. On January 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Vernadine Marie Parker at the Kellogg United Methodist Church. They moved to the O.P. Walker Farm southwest of Newburg where he started farming with a team of horses. The couple farmed in the Newburg community until moving to Seeland Park in Grinnell on June 20, 2005. Emery was a member of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church. Over the years, he was also involved in 4H and Farm Bureau. He served on the Newburg School board while the school was going through the process of joining the Grinnell School system. He was a member of the Newburg American Legion for over 60 years and recently had served as Chaplain for Memorial Day services. He was honored as the Iowa Jaycee Outstanding Young Farmer in 1961. His memory is honored by his wife, Vernadine Kaisand of Grinnell; three sons, Donald (Carol) Kaisand of Kellogg, Iowa, Dennis (Carol) Kaisand of Newton, and David (Denise) Kaisand of Kellogg; one daughter, Dorothy (Roger) Mertz of Goshen, Indiana; 14 grandchildren and their spouses; 25 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Gene Kaisand of Pella, Iowa, Betty Hudnutt of Grinnell, and Elmer Kaisand of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Earl and Edmund Kaisand and Maxine Rasmussen.
