Elsie Irene Taylor Durr was born the daughter of Nova and Ola Straley Taylor on January 24, 1917 in Milan, Missouri. She was raised near Milan and she attended country schools near her home. She was united in marriage to LeRoy Durr on June 24, 1935 in Rock Island, Illinois. The couple resided near Kellogg, Iowa and in the Rock Creek Township. Elsie was a homemaker and she later worked for Bates Flowers in Grinnell for several years. Elsie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grinnell and the Kellogg Garden Club. She dearly loved her family and cherished the times they were together. She held a passion for gardening and growing flowers. Her other enjoyments included playing cards, sewing and quilting. She is survived by her children, Ronald Durr of Grinnell and Linda (Harry) Schumacher of Hot Springs, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Sondra (Sean) Slattery of Lenexa, Kansas, Sonja (Stephan) Greenway of Glen Haven, Colorado, Susan (Tim) Smith of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Robyn Berardo of Grinnell, and Chris Durr of Oakland, California; 7 great grandchildren, John, Andrew, and Stephen Slattery, Anna and Sophie Greenway, and Noah and Ethan Smith; and her siblings, Gladys Reid and Betty Taylor of Grinnell, and Everette Taylor and Anna Belle Bausell of Browning, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy; her son, Larry Durr; a grandson, Jacob Paul Durr; and her siblings, Waylon Taylor, Augusta Pierce, and Earl Taylor.
