Elizabeth May Phipps, 79, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. As per her wishes, no services are planned. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Elizabeth May Phipps Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Elizabeth was born on December 2, 1934, to Morris and Mable Arness Holven in Decorah, Iowa. She attended school in the Decorah area. She was a press and machine operator at Maytag. She retired from Maytag in December 1997. She is survived by her son, Roger (Cynthia) Bakken of Waterloo, Iowa; her brother, Tommy Holven of Toledo, Iowa; two nieces, Rebecca and April and one nephew, Russell. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Douglas.
