Obituary

Eldora Virginia Rickard Turner, 90, of Marshfield, Missouri and formerly of Grinnell, died November 27, 2004, at Doctor's Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services for Mr. Turner will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2004, at the Grinnell First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Stewart officiating. Jeanette Tisdale will play the piano. Pallbearers will be Michael, Steven and Robert Ahrens, Greg Turner, John Anderson and Jay Wissink. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery in Jasper County. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grinnell First Baptist Church or American Heart Association. The daughter of Henry Martin and Anna Josephine Strader Rickard, she was born March 15, 1914, in Cordova, Illinois. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1932 graduate of Grinnell High School. She was a member of the Grinnell First Baptist Church. On December 31, 1933, she was married to Hilliard Hayes Turner and the couple made their home in the Grinnell area. They moved to Rogers, Arkansas in 1970 and later moved to Marshfield in 1985. At the time of her death she was a member of the Marshfield United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed memberships in the Grange, Rebekah Lodge, the Daughters of American Colonists, Camp Fire Girls, Church Women United and many other church affiliated groups. Survivors include her husband of nearly 71 years, Hilliard Turner, Sr. of Marshfield; 3 children, Virginia (Mike) Ahrens of Marshfield, Hilliard 'Junior' (Judy) Turner, Jr. of Grinnell, and Sharon (James) Voorhees of Cedar Falls; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Ralph and Glenn Rickard; 3 sisters, Maurine Dimond, Alma County and Rose Rickard; and a grandson, John Martin Ahrens.
