Elaine Marie Erickson, 84, of Grinnell and formerly of Marion, died on January 15, 2021, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
Due to Covid-19, the Erickson family is requesting a private graveside service and burial for both Elaine and her husband, Roger (who died in 2019), Wednesday afternoon, January 20th, at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg with Rev. John Epperson of Grinnell officiating.
Memorial contributions may be designated to Seeland Park in Grinnell or UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Hospice.
Elaine was born on August 16, 1936, in Mabel, Minnesota, the daughter of Wayne and Ella Amdahl Harkness. She was raised in Mabel and was a 1954 graduate of Mabel High School.
On October 24, 1958, she was united in marriage to Roger Leonard Erickson, at the Mabel United Methodist Church. The couple lived in the Decorah area prior to moving to Marion in 1962. While in Decorah, she was employed as a telephone operator and later she held a variety of jobs including working for the Staamats Company in Cedar Rapids. The couple moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell in September of 2015 and she had been a resident of St. Francis since October 12, 2020.
Elaine, like her husband, was an avid reader, enjoyed going on walks, and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a good cook. She held a passion for traveling and her trips included visiting Germany, South Dakota, Branson, Missouri, Wisconsin Dells, and trips throughout Iowa.
Elaine is survived by her son, Mark (Karen) Erickson of Kellogg; three grandchildren, Nicole Lopez-Garcia, Mathew Erickson, and Chase Erickson, all of Kellogg; one great-granddaughter, Emma Lopez-Garcia of Kellogg; one brother, Jim (Deb) Harkness of Pine Island, Minnesota; her aunt, Lois Johnson of Mabel; and a sister-in-law, Marlys Bjerke of Spring Grove, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
