Eileen LaEtta Omer, 89, of Grinnell died May 5, 2017, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 10th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. David Crow, Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Jeremy Omer, Jessica Virgadamo, Andrew, Aaron and Alex Logan, Matthew Stewart, and Jamie, Tyler and Alyssa Lloyd. Honorary bearer will be Lindsey Stewart. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, sent in c/o Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Eileen was born February 6, 1928, in Iowa City, the daughter of Verne R. and Emma Marie Fletcher Miller. She was raised in Iowa City and was a 1946 graduate of City High. She studied at the University of Iowa X-ray Technician School. On October 16, 1952, she was united in marriage with Albert Cyril Omer at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. While Al served in the Air Force, Eileen became part of a military family and lived in various places around the world. The family settled in Grinnell in 1969. Eileen was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Grinnell Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and a Bailey Park PTO volunteer. She was also a teacher's aide at Bailey Park for many years. Eileen was happiest at home spending time with her family. Eileen was a loving, generous, affectionate mother of four children. She set a great example for her family. Her family was first and foremost in her life. She also touched a lot of lives. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities. Eileen held a passion for ice skating, and at an early age was asked to skate and tour with the "Holiday on Ice" company. She loved music, enjoyed playing the piano, was an avid reader, and a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She is survived by her four children, Jeffrey (Kay) Omer of The Woodlands, Texas, Cynthia (Loren) Logan of West Salem, Wisconsin, Linda (Robert) Stewart of Grinnell and Patricia (Mark) Lloyd of Grinnell; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Jessica) Omer, Jessica (Christopher) Virgadamo, Andrew, Aaron (Rachel) and Alex Logan, Matthew Stewart, Jamie, Tyler and Alyssa Lloyd; one step-grandson, Dr. Travis (Riplee) Parkening; and four great-grandchildren, Aracelli and Griffin Virgadamo, Hudson Logan and Maximus Lloyd. She was preceded in death by her parents, Verne and Marie Miller; her husband, Judge Albert C. Omer, Lt. Col. USAF (ret.); one brother, Dr. Fletcher A. Miller and one granddaughter, Lindsey Stewart.
