Obituary

Edwina Jay Glandon, 64, of Grinnell, passed away on April 5, 2021, at her home, of natural causes. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 9th at the Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell with Ron Glynn, AWANA Missionary for Iowa and Pastor Craig Johnson, Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Music will be provided by Marcia Johnson, accompanist and Jennifer McAlexander, vocalist. Pallbearers will be Jay's brother-in-laws John Caldwell, Steve Cooley, Mike Glandon, Ron Glandon, Steve Korff, and her nephew Ryan Korff. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation with the Glandon family present will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 Thursday afternoon at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be directed to the AWANA Club of the Calvary Baptist Church in support of the clubbers. The funeral service will be live-streamed on the Smith Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 9:45 a.m. Friday morning. Jay was born on October 7, 1956, in Hannibal, Missouri, the daughter of Edward and Betty Jane Rhinehart Goldman. She grew up in St. Charles, Missouri and was a 1975 graduate of St. Charles High School. She furthered her education at Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville with a major in Elementary Education. On June 9, 1978, she was united in marriage to Gary Allen Glandon, in St. Charles, Missouri. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Grinnell where they raised their two daughters, Sarah and Rebecca. Upon moving to Grinnell, Jay was employed at ALCO Department Store for a few years, then as a para-educator working with students and in the library at Fairview Elementary School. After many years employed at Fairview, she left her position to begin homeschooling her two daughters. She also worked as a secretary at a law firm in Grinnell for a few years. Most recently she worked as an in-home daycare provider and part time at Wal-Mart until the onset of her illness in late 2014. Due to her health, she moved to St. Francis Manor in 2015. During her time at St. Francis Manor, she enjoyed attending group activities, participating in holiday events, as well as attending church, community events and family activities. For a short 10 days, she was able to return home to be with her family under hospice care. Jay was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. She served as a Sunday school teacher for early elementary children for 30 years. Jay and Gary were active as the co-commanders of the AWANA club at Calvary Baptist Church. She also enjoyed attending Iowa Regular Baptist Camp with her daughters as a counselor during Junior Girls Camp and attending family camp with her family. Jay was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; she was very devoted to her family. She enjoyed working with children and was dedicated to their well-being, which was evident in her career choices. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles. She enjoyed a variety of craft projects, which included creating scrapbooks, sewing, and cross stitch. She enjoyed playing card and board games with her family, including teaching her children and grandchildren to lose at Candyland. Survivors include her husband, Gary of Grinnell; two children, Sarah (Jeff) Holden and Rebecca (Allen) Taylor, all of Grinnell; eight grandchildren, Isabelle, Kinnick, Carver, and Amelia Holden and Peyton, McKinzie, Wyatt, and Arya Taylor; six siblings, Jo (John) Caldwell of Florida, Jerry (Sherry) Goldman of Texas, Jeff (Mia) Goldman of Thailand, Jan (Steve) Korff of Missouri, Judy Roccia of Missouri, and Sue Volmert of Missouri; her In-laws, Ardith and Sally Glandon of Sigourney; brothers and sisters in law Doug (Lynne) Glandon, Ron (Elizabeth) Glandon, Janet (Steve) Cooley, and Mike (Mary) Glandon; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Robert Graham, a nephew, Jeremy Roccia; a brother-in-law, Don Volmert; and a sister-in-law, Julie Kruschinska.
