Obituary

Edna was born the daughter of Charles and Lillian Onthank Kimball, Jr. on May 30, 1924 in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised in Grinnell and was educated at Cooper, Parker, and Davis Elementary schools, Grinnell Junior High School, and was a Grinnell High School graduate with the class of 1942. Following her education, she was employed with the Grinnell Canning Company as well as other factories in Newton and Kellogg. Edna was united in marriage to Paul L. Elliott on June 4, 1944 at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. To this union were born six sons, Gary, Charles, Dennis, Dwaine, Ralph, and Ed; and one daughter Linda. The family resided in the Rock Creek area following their marriage, where Paul farmed and Edna was a homemaker. The family moved and has resided southeast of Grinnell for the past thirty-one years. Edna loved being outdoors working in her flower beds and garden. She enjoyed working along side of Paul in the milk barn, in the fields, and then going to the house to cook enough food to feed an entire army. She would welcome a first time visitor into her home as though they were a loved family member or friend. Edna not only raised and loved her family but touched the lives of many people. She was always there if you needed to talk or to just have your hand held. She opened her heart and home to who ever needed it, two legged, four legged, it didn't matter, she had enough love and compassion for all. Edna's goal in life was to share the love of her Lord and Savior with others so that they too would know eternal life and spend eternity together in Heaven. Edna is survived by her husband Paul of Grinnell; her sons, Gary and his wife Carol of Grinnell, Charles and his wife Carol of Athens, Tennessee, Dennis and his wife Lesley of Grinnell, Dwaine and his wife Laura of Grinnell, Ralph and his wife Lori of Grinnell, and Ed and Heidi of Rochester, Minnesota; her daughter Linda Dannar and her husband Dan of Akron, Colorado; and over sixty grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edna passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at her home surrounded by her family. She was eighty years of age and was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter Betty Joyce in 1956; her two infant grandsons; her infant great grandchildren; and her four sisters, of which two were in infancy.
