Memorial Contributions: St. James Lutheran Church in Victor Edna was born the daughter of Edd and Rose Freeze Johnson on January 2, 1915 in rural Butler County, Iowa. She was raised in rural Butler County and she was educated at country schools near her family farm. She was united in marriage to George A. Beenken on October 6, 1934 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple established their home in Grundy County. The couple also resided in Cedar Rapids and Eddyville prior to enjoying their retirement years at Holiday Lake near Brooklyn. Edna was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Victor. Her enjoyments included tending to her garden and flowers, camping, fishing, sewing, and making quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edna is survived by her children, George Beenken of Mooresville, Missouri, and Everett (Elly) Beenken of Yuma, Arizona; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; her brother, Henry Johnson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and her sister, Jennette Hulbert of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Evelyn; her brother, Andrew; and her sisters, Sena and JoAnna.
