Obituary

Eddie Hugh Ingram, age 87, of Grinnell, IA passed away on May 1st at Windsor Manor Assisted Living supported with the care from Unity Point Hospice.

A funeral service will be held, 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, Grinnell, IA with interment at Hazelwood Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Friday, May 10, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church.

Eddie was born on October 5, 1936 at home in rural New Market, IA to Oren "Dale" and Julia Emma (Basher) Ingram. Eddie grew up in rural Taylor County Iowa and graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1955. Following high school, Eddie received an associate degree from Clarinda Junior College.

On February 14, 1959 Eddie was united in marriage to Charlene Ann Smith at the Methodist Church in New Market. To this union the couple had three children David, Angela, and Cory.

On August 13, 1959 Eddie was enlisted into the Army in Des Moines, IA. He served for two years and was honorably discharged at Fort Carson in Colorado. Eddie enjoyed a 34-year career at General Telephone and Electronics retiring in 1994 to care for his parents and enjoy his retirement.

Eddie was active in the Gilman flying club, the Calvary Baptist Church, an avid family photographer, and other community programs. Eddie loved to travel, he cherished his family vacations to Canada, Colorado, and celebrated many of the later years of their 65 wedding anniversaries with Charlene in Nashville, TN. Eddie will be remembered for his passion of fishing, hiking, and flying in the mountains. He was a certified flight instructor, and taught from 1971-1978. He lasted piloted in 2014. During his years flying, he flew various planes in many areas of the United States and in the Netherlands. In the 1980's he flew planes for aerial application of crop treatments for a few years. His favorite place to fly was the Colorado Rockies. Eddie loved to attend his grandkids activities and planning and hosting family reunions at Cory's home.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; his children, David (Sharon) Ingram of Marshalltown, IA, Angela (Bob) Sparks of Alamosa, CO, and Dr. Cory (Lilian) Ingram, MD, of Mantorville, MN and his grandchildren, Matthew (Kathryn) Ingram, Joel Ingram, Ian Ingram, Lance Ingram, Chelsea (Mike) Oden, Sarah (Jonathan) Gears, Graham Oden, Lauren (Tai) Ingram, Lars Ingram, Luke Ingram, and Lonneke Ingram, and great granddaughter Aspen Gears.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
