Doyle was born on September 23, 1934, on the family farm south of Centerville, IA to Everett and Mary (Eddy) Mikles. He graduated from Centerville High School with the class of 1952. After graduation he moved to Grinnell where he met his wife.

On August 14, 1955, Doyle was united in marriage to Marjorie Billman. Doyle and Marjorie had two children together, Randall and Lora.

Doyle served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1959. After the military, he returned to Grinnell working part-time at the Skelly Station for 15 years and full time at Grinnell College for over 40 years. At Grinnell College he was the lead foreman for the painting department until his retirement in 1999. He also served as an Auxiliary Police Officer from 1964 to 1985.

Doyle was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church. He will be remembered for his hard work, crazy sense of humor, willingness to help others and mostly for his ferocious love of family. He enjoyed carpentry, fixing things, coffee time with his friends, and homemade peanut brittle (loving made by his nieces). He also enjoyed going to the fair and for over 5 decades, each August, you would find him camping at the Iowa State Fair.

He is survived by his son, Randall Mikles of Grinnell; daughter, Lora (Alan) Cline of Grinnell; grandchildren, Douglas Cline of Grinnell, and Krystle James of Lynnville; great-grandson, Christian Waldemer of Harlan; and brother Ronald (Linda) Mikles of Grinnell.

He is predeceased by his wife, Marjorie; his brothers, Paul Mikles and Darrell Mikles; his sister, Pauline Ewing; his brother-in-law, Carl Ewing; and his sisters-in-law, Marie Mikles and Nancy Mikles.
