Dorothy Snook, 86, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the home of her son in Arlington, Texas. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Len Eberhart, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell, officiating. Music will be provided by Terence Blaine, organist and Milton Severe, vocalist. Casket Bearers will be Ron Emerson, Dick Gustafson, Roger Noel, Randy Reavis, Dave Smith and Jim Webb. Honorary Pallbearer will be Charles Bethel. Interment will be in the Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or to the Grinnell United Methodist Church and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Dorothy was born on April 20, 1925, in Kewanee, Illinois to Merle and Geraldine Williams Adams. The family moved to Newton when Dorothy was four years old and she attended public schools in Newton, graduating with the Class of 1943. On April 6, 1947, she was married to Dale (Bud) Snook in Newton. The couple lived in Newton, Mingo and Bloomfield before moving to Grinnell in 1955. She was a homemaker and dedicated mother besides serving as office manager and co-owner of Snook Lumber Products in Newton. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell and she was a charter member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the T.T.T. Society and the Lady Elks. She loved dancing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Robert Snook of Arlington, Texas, with whom she spent the majority of her time since 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1988; and her only brother, Eldon Adams, who died in 1946.
