Dorothy R. Meussling, age 92, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Mayflower Community, her home since 2005 when she moved to Grinnell from Des Moines.
A memorial service will be held for Dorothy in the Montgomery Lounge at Mayflower Community, 616 Broad St., Grinnell, at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2013.
Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Dorothy's chosen profession in the field of Christian Education took her to Wisconsin, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania as well as to Iowa. She graduated in 1948 from Schauffler School of Christian Education and Social Work in Ohio, then worked as Director of Christian Education in a number of congregations. She became a secretary with the Board of Christian Education, United Church of Christ, in Philadelphia before moving to Des Moines in 1975, when she took a position as Executive Secretary with the Iowa Conference of the United Church of Christ. Dorothy retired from that role in 1985.
During retirement Dorothy was able to spend more time with two hobbies: she was an active and appreciated member of the Central Iowa Sewing Guild; she also was an avid gardener, turning her yard into a feast for all to see.
Dorothy is survived by one sister, Ruth Schreiber, of Tallmadge, Ohio, and a number of family members. Dorothy's ashes will be placed at a later time at the summer home of her brother-in-law, Carl Pfeiffer, near Eagle River, WI.
