Dorothy Takako Inouye, 98, of Grinnell passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell.
Dorothy was born on September 15, 1923, in Stockton, California, where her parents had moved from Japan in 1917. Her parents, Tokue and Chuzaburo Ogata, owned and operated a delicatessen and Dorothy would play marbles in front of the deli. She had two siblings: an older brother who became a minister, and a younger brother who was an engineer.
In August of 1998 Dorothy came to the Mayflower community. She enjoyed taking long walks, painting in water color, reading, photography, and dressing in her kimono and singing Japanese opera. Dorothy was very proud of her Japanese heritage and she also enjoyed Chinese food and sushi. She liked to help other residents in the Health Center by sitting and talking with them and alerting nursing staff to their needs. She also enjoyed doing odd jobs such as folding laundry
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Rev. Daniel Ogata. She is survived by her daughter Sharon and her husband and her only grandchild Rita.
