Dorothy Holcomb, age 66 of Grinnell, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 30th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Dorothy Jane Sarver was born the daughter of Donald and Luverne (Siefken) Sarver on February 2, 1953 in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm near Grinnell and graduated with the Grinnell High School class of 1972. Dorothy was united in marriage to Franklin Holcomb on March 18, 1978 at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. The couple moved to California in 1980 until Dorothy returned to Grinnell in 1994. She was a longtime housekeeper of over 17 years at the Mayflower Community in Grinnell, retiring in 2012. Dorothy always put the needs of others ahead of hers. She enjoyed reading, knitting, taking weekend trips with friends and family, going shopping, and having lunch with friends. She was especially fond of cats and always found comfort in her feline companion. She will be remembered for being kind, selfless, caring, and for always being there as a great friend. Dorothy is survived by her sisters, Trudy Koger of Grinnell and Mary (Rex) Schroeder of Round Rock, Texas; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
