Dorothy Faye Ellenwood, 86, of Newton and formerly of Grinnell, died on November 11, 2021, at Nelson Manor in Newton.

Dorothy was born on August 2, 1935, in Corydon, Iowa, the daughter of Nelson and Donna Sly McCarty. She was raised in Corydon and was a 1953 graduate of Corydon/Chariton High School.
In September of 1953, she was united in marriage to Gene F. "Tob" Smith, in Abington, Illinois and the couple made their home in the Grinnell area. Dorothy was employed at Maytag in Newton for about 20 years and retired from there in early 1980's. She was later marred to Lloyd Ellenwood.
Dorothy loved playing cards, especially Pepper, and in the nursing home she was known as the "Bingo Queen." She loved people, especially family members and friends.
Survivors include her son, Randy of Hong Kong, China; one brother, Don McCarty; and a nephew, Nick Jones of Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 1st husband, Tob and her 2nd husband, Lloyd; her daughter, Pamela Jones on August 2, 2021; a step-son. Terry Ellenwood; one brother, Dick McCarty; and three sisters, Patricia, Judy, and Sue.
