Dorothy Anne Bowman, 89, of Grinnell, died on June 23, 2022 at Brooklyn Community Estates, in Brooklyn, IA.
A funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 8, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grinnell, IA. A private burial will follow at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on November 27, 1932, in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph L. and Catherine Cain Van Horn. She moved with her family to Cameron, Missouri where she graduated from Cameron High School with the Class of 1950. She later received her RN degree at a nursing school in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Dorothy met her future husband Glenn F. Bowman during their junior year in high school. They were united in marriage on June 5, 1954, in St. Joseph, Missouri. The couple raised their seven children together, moving to and from several cities in the Midwest, including Grinnell. After Glenn's retirement from GTE in 1996, the couple lived in Madison, Wisconsin and later Muscatine, Iowa. Following Glenn's death in 2015, Dorothy returned to Grinnell and lived at Windsor Manor. She had been a resident at Brooklyn Community Estates since July of 2021.
Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoyed movies, shopping, and traveling, including Ireland, California and Mackinac Island, Michigan. She was a loving and devoted mother. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were most important to Dorothy, and she was very proud of all of them.
She is survived by her children, Chris (Joan) Bowman of Urbandale, John (Terry) Bowman of Westlake Village, California, Kathy Moser (Dick Kelm) of Grinnell, Theresa (Dan) Schumann of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Rick Bowman of Las Vegas, and Janet (Joe) Tegtmeier of Verona, Wisconsin; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Hudnutt of Montana; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; one son, Mark Bowman; and a grandson, Jacob Bowman.
